Meet Joan Peterson...co-author of the
Wisconsin Local Foods Journal Sat * Nov 26 * 1-3- pm Joan Peterson, Ph.D., is the author and publisher of the EAT SMART series of guidebooks for travelers and cookbook lovers, who want to get to the heart of a country’s culture through its cuisine.
Her first guide, Eat Smart in Brazil: How to Decipher the Menu, Know the Market Foods & Embark on a Tasting Adventure, was so enthusiastically received by travelers, foodies—and especially Brazilians—that Joan set aside her career as a biochemist at the University of Wisconsin in the early 90s to devote full time to another passion: helping others navigate menus and markets in foreign countries.
To date she has written guides to the cuisines of Brazil, Turkey, Indonesia, Mexico, Poland, Morocco, India, Peru, Sicily, and Norway, and they include, as always, the history of the food, regional specialties, recipes, and bilingual aids for reading menus and foodstuffs in the market. In between her writing projects, Joan leads culinary tours to Europe, Asia and Africa. She is the founder and director of the Travel Publishers Association and a founding member of CHEW (Culinary History Enthusiasts of Wisconsin). The publishing company she formed, Ginkgo Press, is in Madison, WI. |

A few words from the APT website about
"The Taming of the Shrew"
"Of all the contracts we make with each other, none is more ubiquitous than
marriage. That makes it fertile ground for comedy, but also for a look at how we
spend our lives together. In The Taming of the Shrew, we see relationships
evolve (or is that devolve?) while the infamous Kate goes about her business
with the passion and intensity of the eponymous shrew. Though she has been
something of a lightning rod over the years, here we see her for what she is —
determined, fierce, honest — and what she isn’t (namely, a hellcat). A
Shakespearean comedy rife with human insight..."

Friday * December 10 * 7:30 pm We are so sorry ...but due to the storm, our two Door County poets will not be able to travel all the way to Baraboo for their reading. Therefore, we are canceling Second Friday Poetry and hoping everyone stays safe and warm at home. Fa la la la la...... Featuring Two Poets from Door County: NANCY RAFAL & SHARON AUBERLE From her home outside Bailey's Harbor, Nancy Rafal crafts poems when she's not working as treasurer of the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets. She co-edited the 2009 Wisconsin Poets' Calendar and is a member of the Wisconsin Regional Writers Association. After many years of dividing her time between our northern woods and the Southwest, Sharon Auberle has settled full time on the sheltering pines and open waters of Door County. She celebrated her permanent return by getting not one but two collections of her poems published.
Be
